Abstract |
Background: Cognitive fluctuation is one of the most important clinical features in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The Mayo Fluctuations Questionnaire (MFQ) is a structured informant interview to detect certain aspects of fluctuations that distinguish with DLB from Alzheimer's disease (AD) and normal aging. Objective: To assess the usefulness of the Japanese version of the MFQ for Japanese patients with DLB or AD. Methods: Participants included 35 AD patients and 12 DLB patients. The Japanese version of the MFQ was administered to the reliable informants. The frequency of positive endorsement for each item was compared between the two patient groups. Results: The items that significantly differentiate AD from DLB include two items for sleep behavior and one item that emphasize the near-normal cognitive function in the lucid state. Conclusion: Appropriate of modification of the Japanese version of the MFQ may enable to find specific aspects of fluctuations in DLB that reliably distinguish DLB from AD. |
