Abstract Objective: To study executive dysfunction in activity of daily living (ADL) in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: We interviewed the informants of 38 AD patients using Dysexecutive Questionnaire (DEX) from Behavioural Assessment of the Dysexecutive Syndrome (BADS). The correlation coefficients were examined between the total score of the DEX and the clinical data, dementia severity and the scores of cognitive tests. Results: The total score of the DEX was significantly correlated to age, disease dulation, Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR), MMSE score and ADAS score. The DEX score was also significantly correlated to several sub-score of ADAS which included word recall, orientation and ideational praxis. A multiple correlation model which include age, the DEX score and each clinical characteristic or cognitive score showed the significant correlation between the DEX score and each variable after eliminationg the effect of age. Conclusion: Disability on ADL detected by DEX was associated with executive dysfunction as well as deficits of recent memory and orientation.
