Abstract |
I reviewed recently-published clinicopathological studies of FTD. Two degenerative disease entities; tauopathy and ubiquitinopathy are major pathological background of FTD. The former contains Pick's disease with Pick bodies, corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, and FTDP-17. The latter is consisted of FTD with motor neuron disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with dementia) and motor neuron disease inclusion dementia. Other diseases, such as argyrophilic grain disease and neuronal intermediate filament inclusion disease, may also present with clinical features of FTD. Further accumulation of clinicopathological studies is necessary for the future therapy of FTD. |
