Abstract |
We examined closing-in phenomenon in consecutive 132 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and 18 patients with Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Each patient underwent the construction tasks in MMSE and Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale (ADAS), and the copy task of the Rey's complex figure. Closing-in phenomenon was observed 12 out of 132 AD patients and 6 out of 18 DLB patients. The rate was significantly higher in the DLB group than in the AD group (χ2=8.8, p<.01). Visuocognitive dysfunction is reported to be more profound in DLB when compared with AD. The result of the current study suggests the relation between visuocognitive dysfunction and closing-in phenomenon. |
