Abstract |
We focused on the series processing model in the brain in contrast to traditional parallel processing one in neuropsychology, especially in view of our own studies on epilepsy. Two series of studies, the one on sequences within aura sensations and age at onset of aura sensations, the other on paraphasias following complex partial seizures, are introduced. Observed phenomena are interpreted within a framework of Brown's theories of micorgenesis and paraphasias. In contrast to previous theories on the genesis of neologisms, which have stressed the role of disrupted phoneme production, neologisms occur without accompanying phonemic paraphasias in postictal confusion in our series. Similarities and dissimilarities between neologisms in schizophrenia and those in postictal confusions are pointed out. |
