Abstract |
It is important for a society to remember the true stories of those who got over the disabilities due to severe higher brain dysfunction, because their final success after many battles against varieties of functional disability and communication disturbance is sure to encourage the successors with similar disabilities and handicaps. Among those who have successfully conquered apparently invincible disabilities, the present author described the stories of locked-in syndrome subjects who left beautiful poems and essays, a painter who worried about the change of color vision after cataract surgery, a painter with right cerebral hemispheric damage, and several severely aphasic artists who could realize their master-piece works in spite of language disturbances. The author also discussed about the relationship between artistic realization and psychotic disorders. |
