Abstract |
An 80-years-old man with ambidextrality presented to us with a sixteen days history of an infarction in the right temporo-occipital and parietal cortices. On a neuropsychological examination, he showed unilateral spatial neglect of the left hemispace, constructional disorder and ideational apraxia. He did not show aphasia or alexia, but did show disturbances in spontaneous writing, dictation, copy and drawing over the model for kanji and kana word. The error in writing included no response, paragraphia, and spatial distortion of the lines which consist of a letter. He also showed spatial agraphia. Three months after the onset, the unilateral spatial neglect and the constructional disorder improved. The error in writing also decreased but not disappeared in spontaneous writing, dictation and copy. We consider that the right temporo-occipital and parietal infarcts the patient caused dominant and non-dominant hemisphere syndromes associated with the atypical cerebral dominance. The dysgraphia is thought to consist of constructional agraphia, pure agraphia, and spatial agraphia. |
