Abstract |
The Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB) is a short neuropsychological screening for bedside assessment of frontal lobe function. The effect of aging on the Japanese version of the FAB was evaluated. Healthy adults (n=120; 60 men and 60 women: aged between 20 and 70 years; mean age, 50.4±16.6 years) participated in the study. All participants had completed the compulsory education. Their Clinical Dementia Rating was zero. Results indicated that the FAB score declined with age, being significantly lower in the 60-69 and 70-79 age groups compared to the 20-29, 30-39 and 40-49 age groups. Scores of the "similarities" and "Go-No-Go" subtests were also significantly lower in the 60-69 and 70-79 age groups compared to the 20-29, 30-39 and 40-49 age groups. We suggest that the age of the respondents should be taken into consideration when evaluating the results of the FAB. |
