Abstract The concept of "anarthria" proposed by Martin L Albert in the Lecture done at the 40th Conference of Kinki Higher Nervous Function on the 26th June 2008, was discussed. His connotation of "anarthria" are not that proposed by Marie in the Debate on Aphasia in 1908 but that quasi-equal to cortico-subcortical central dysarthria. We guessed the reason why he and neurologists in Boston have used "anarthria" as dysarthria". It seems to be because they consider important the classical view point represented by Dejerine opposing Marie who had just anticlassical viewpoint concerning aphasiology.
Keywords anrthria, Boston school, Martin L Albert, debate on aphasia
